What is VPN?
A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is an extension of a private network, such as CACI's
network, across a public network, such as the internet. Both ends of the connection
make a link to the internet using the normal media - a regular phone line, an DSL
connection, or a dedicated line of some sort. After the connections are made,
encrypted data is routed across the public network (the internet) between the remote user
(you) and the private network (CACI).
The appeal of a VPN is its ability to use the global presence of the internet's pre-existing infrastructure. The communication link you establish with CACI from your remote location with VPN can be made made quickly, cheaply and safely across the world. Dedicated private lines aren't required and security can be configured at very high levels.
