How do I configure Lotus Notes for
replication?
Configuring Lotus Notes to replicate will allow you to compose e-mail in Lotus
Notes when you are not connected to your Lotus Notes home server on the CACI network
through your VPN connection. When you are ready to send and receive e-mail you will
connect to CACI's network and replicate with your Lotus Notes home server. This will
allow you to spend less time sending and receiving e-mail from your remote location.
Configuring Lotus Notes for replication is an advanced configuration
task. If you are not an advanced Lotus Notes user you may want to call the CACI Corporate Information Systems (CIS) Technical Assistance Center
(TAC) at 703-679-3200. A representative from the TAC can walk you through the
configuration process. The TAC is open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 8:00pm.

How to Replicate with Lotus Notes
The following instructions are for practical day-to-day use of Lotus Notes after
you have configured it for replication. If you have experience with other mail
clients, MS Outlook for example, you will notice some similarities in the general
procedure.
You will connect to your Lotus Notes home server through VPN, and
then replicate all of your e-mail to the Local e-mail database you created in the previous
instructions. Once this is done you can disconnect from your Lotus Notes home server and
read your mail offline. Any new mail you compose will be sent back to the server the
next time you replicate. Use the instructions below as a guideline for a typical
session:
- Connect to CACI's network with VPN
- Open Lotus Notes
- Select File from the Menu Bar
- Select Mobile from the drop down menu
- Select Choose Current Location
- Highlight "Travel (modem)" at the Choose Location
window
- Select the OK button at the Choose Location window
- Highlight the database called "Your-Name on Local"
- Select File from the Menu Bar
- Select Replication from the drop down menu
- Select Replicate
- At the Replicate window select the "Replicate via
Background Replicator" radio button
- At the Replicate window select the OK button
- Select the Replicator tab (located next to the Workspace
tab)
- Select the Send and Receive Mail button at the top of the
Replicator tab. The replicator service will send any new e-mail you have composed
since the last time you replicated and receive any new mail from your Lotus Notes home
server.
- Close the Replicator tab and open the database called
"Your-Name on Local" to read your e-mail
- After the replication service is complete you can disconnect
from VPN and read or compose e-mail. When you are ready to send and receive e-mail
again, repeat these steps. Please note that e-mail you compose will remain on your
PC until you replicate.
