What are "off-line files"?

Offline files is a file synchronization utility built into the Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems that allows you to keep your important files on a server, but retain a local copy of the files in a cache for use when you are not connected to the network. A background process monitors changes to files when you are in off-line mode and uploads these changes back to the server when you return to the office. This is a good solution for working with important data, as it ensures a copy is kept on a server and can be backed up regularly.
